Weldon W. Hake, 79, of Grand Island, formerly of Palmer, died at the Grand Island Veterans Home on Saturday, May 21, 2011.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. The Rev. Robert Schilling will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Palmer American Legion Post No. 120.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of the arrangements.
Weldon Wallace was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Central City, to John and Bertha (Butt) Hake.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Wilma, of Grand Island; five children, Timothy and Theresa Hake of Arkansas, Thomas and Janet Hake of Palmer, Patricia "Trish" Fradd of Kearney, Pamela and Larry Lienemann of Doniphan and Todd and Dawn Hake of Palmer; six stepchildren, David and Shirley Bohaboj, Agnes Bohaboj, Barbara and Roger Stark, Joann and Jose Flores, Janet and Brian Kaup and Michael Bohaboj; a brother, LaRoy and Alpha Hake of Eureka, Calif.; and a sister, Loris Ann Doncheske of Palmer.
Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Daniel and Ashley Hake, Jaime and Matt Green, Bryan Hake, Kinzie Lienemann, Kristina Hake, Grant Davis, Alyssa Hake, Emily Lienemann and Audrey Hake; two great-grandchildren, Harper Sloan and Ella Hake; 12 stepgrandchildren, Josh, Cody, Cameron, Christian, Jared, Nicole, Jonathan, Jessica, Maria, Maria, Noah and Charlie; and many nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Merrick County and received his education at country school in Merrick County and graduated from Central City High School in 1948.
On Aug. 14, 1952, Weldon entered the U.S. Army. He served in Korea and was awarded two Bronze Stars. Weldon was honorably discharged from the military on May 13, 1954.
Weldon returned to farm with his father in Merrick County and he continued to farm until retiring in the mid 1990s.
On May 26, 1957, Weldon was united in marriage to Doris Jean Martens. They made their home north of Central City on a farm and in 1972 moved to their home north of Palmer where they farmed and raised livestock. Doris died in 1984.
In 1986, Weldon was married to Janet Hart and on Oct. 13, 1996, he married Wilma (Cech) Bohaboj. Weldon and Wilma made their home on the farm north of Palmer until moving to the Grand Island Veterans Home in May 2009.
Weldon was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. He was a member of the Palmer American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, playing pitch, rummy, and checkers, listening to talking books and going to auctions. Weldon's greatest loves were his faith, his family, and his farming, which is the legacy he left to his family.
Weldon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris; infant daughter, Theresa; infant brother, Delmer Hake; and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Doncheske.
