Susan Engelmann Soria

Burleson, Texas - Susan Soria (Engelmann), 83, died Thursday Feb. 4, 2021.
Service: 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 1:30 p.m.Thursday prior to service.
Susie was born Feb. 17, 1937, in Hallettsville, Texas as the fifth of five children. She married in 1957 and lived in Mexico for nine years before moving to the DFW metroplex. She graduated with a master's degree in Bilingual Education from Texas Wesleyan University. She was fluent in Spanish and used that in teaching Spanish-speaking children at the elementary school level. At that time there were very few resources for bilingual teaching, so she designed and made many of her own resources.
She retired from teaching and dedicated her time to other pursuits such as crocheting afghans, baby blankets, lap-robes, and other things as gifts for family and friends. Her other love was music. In addition to using her beautiful soprano voice to sing solos, duets and trios in church, she often played the piano for her church, school and friends. Even up to her final days she was the pianist for services in the chapel at the senior living facility. She truly loved the Lord.
Susie was preceded in death by her son, Ernest Soria.
She is survived by her sister, Jannie Engelmann; children, Susie Ybarra, Enrique Soria, Maggie Carlgren and their spouses; nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law; as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
