Marjorie Cornwell Obituary

In loving memory of...Marjorie Ann Cornwell Marge Cornwell, formerly of Overland Park Kansas and Durango Colorado, peacefully passed from her sleep into eternal life Saturday, February 10th in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. She was 94. There will be cremation with a private burial in Emporia Kansas alongside her late husband of 53 years, Bill Cornwell .

Marge was born in Potwin, Kansas in 1924. Marge and Bill grew up in Emporia Kansas. During WWII, Marge served on the Kansas Rationing Board & Bill served in the USCG. Following the war, they were married in Emporia. Marge and Bill lived in Lincoln Kansas and Beloit Kansas, before moving to Overland Park Kansas in 1958. There Bill taught and coached basketball at Shawnee Mission North High School. Marge began working outside the home in 1968 at Indian Hills Jr. High School as an administrative assistant to the principal, where she worked until she and Bill retired in 1989. She had many passions including sewing, crafts, gardening, painting and volunteering. Though they continued to stay connected to their many dear friends in Overland Park, they moved to Durango and were very active in the community. Family and friends take great comfort in the richness of Marge's life, her zest for living, giving of herself and her smile. She was a member of the San Juan Basin Archeology Society, volunteered at the Methodist Thrift store, served at the local soup kitchen for years. Marge faithfully served and loved her church family at First United Methodist Church in Durango. Her retirement was filled with the love of outdoor adventures, including hiking, camping, golf, skiing. She also loved to travel, went on several mission trips abroad and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. After Bill's death in 1999, Marge found love again and married John Waters of Durango. They also shared an active, strong and loving marriage. Following John's death in July of 2016, she moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to be close to her daughter Eve for the remainder of her life.

Marge is survived by her two sons, Michael Cornwell (Jonnie) of Ottawa Kansas, Jeffrey Cornwell (Betsy) of Anchorage Alaska and daughter Eve Cornwell Gaines (Terry) of Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. She has two grand children, Jessica Cornwell Grantier (Stephen) of Anchorage Alaska and Zachary Cozzie of Denver Colorado and one great-grand daughter, Dayton Jewel Cozzie. Her family was blessed by her love, her sacrifice, her passions, her servants heart and faith.

Any memorials or charitable donation can be given to the First United Methodist Church of Durango Colorado.
