Margaret Jean Potter McClanahan passed away at 97 years old on October 3, 2021. She was born in Ignacio, CO on May 2, 1924 and lived in Ignacio for most of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband Bruce 'Butch' McClanahan and her son Dale. She leaves behind her three children: Judy Bundy, Cindy Swanemyr and Greg McClanahan. Her family tree is also filled with 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. While this provides some data about her accomplishments in life, kindness, generosity commitment to her family and compassion are just a few of the hallmarks that she will be remembered for. Jean spent her life going about doing good for others. Butch and Jean owned the Ignacio Shur Value Grocery store where their commitment to the Ignacio community was felt for many many years. They loved serving the community and that love was reciprocated by the community. This was evidenced by the community naming a community room in the library after their name and in their honor. She will be missed by all who knew her and were touched by her graciousness. Donations in honor of Jean can be made to the Ignacio Public Library. A graveside service will be held Saturday 10/9/2021 2:00 at Ignacio Cemetery East. I did not know that Margaret Jean had passed away. She and my mother, Norma Jean Patrick are both in Heaven now, and having fun, I am sure. They were friends for life.

My thoughts and prayers to all the family. Jeannie was a wonderful woman and friend. I have fond memories as a child being in the store and at their home. Butch and Jeannie were great friends to my dad Bruce Chandler, who owned a leather shop in Ignacio in the early 50's. Butch stood up with my dad when he and mom married in 1952! She led a good long life and raised a beautiful family. God Bless all of you.

Jean was like my second Mom growing up with my best friend Dale. I can't count how many times I was up on the hill at her house playing with Dale and Greg, listening to Butch joke around and eating lunch. God Bless you all.

Dear Lady Jean McClanahan, Truly one of a kind for sure! As we all go on through our daily lives we all have some people that we cross paths with that we may find to be special. Jean was very special. I had the privilege of working every day with Jean for about 16 years. Besides my Mother and my Father, there was no one that tought me more than Jean and Argus Butch McClanahan. They helped to shape me into the person I am today. Those 16 years working with Jean and so many other great People than Jean and Butch had working for them were some of the best years of my life. They were Ignacio proud, community proud, and had the hearts of Gold! My deepest love to my Lady Jean and to her wonderful family! Gerardo

Miss Jean and husband were so very kind to everyone. The 14 years I lived in Ignacio area, I saw them both regularly. If everyone had her heart and spirit, this world would be a much better place. Rest in Peace.

The memories are endless. She was such a major part of making the Ignacio community and touched every single person there some time or some way in their lives. She always had a smile on her face and uplifted the community in everything she did. The whole time I lived there she seemed to impact someone or something all the time. What a beautiful life she had and so many beautiful memories she is leaving behind. There is a special place in Heaven for her and she is now in the peaceful hands of the Lord and with her beloved husband Butch and son Dale. I miss and love you all. God Bless you and am praying for you.

Judy, Cindy, and Greg, You have had a blessing with your mother for so many years. You will miss her but always remember that she is with your dad and Dale. Your parents were amazing people. I will always remember them for their generosity to so many in Ignacio. My favorite memory of them is every year on Christmas Eve, after the Locker Plant closed they would come by the house and bring a box of goodies for us. May you all be blessed with your family memories of Miss Jean.
