Harry Goff Obituary

Harry Goff, a 50 year resident of Durango CO, died peacefully at home in Lincoln CA on 8-7-17 with family members by his side.

Harry was born in Casa Grande AZ 11-17-37. He was married to Merlene Sutter on June 10th, 1960 in Grand Island NE. The couple lived the majority of their lives in Durango, CO where they raised two daughters.

Harry grew up in Casa Grande, graduating as Valedictorian in 1955. He remembered those years and his friends from that time very fondly.

Harry was very civic minded, serving his country and community in many ways. Some of the notable ways he served include the Civil Engineering Corps of the US Navy, the CO State Board of Engineering, La Plata Electric Association and the board at Tri -State Generation and Transmission Inc.

Harry was the resident engineer for the development of the Durango water system and water storage tank facility.

In 1977, Harry started Goff Engineering and Surveying which is still successfully serving the Four Corners area and will celebrate it's 40th Anniversary this year.

After retiring, Harry enjoyed farming and caring for the land on his two farms located in Bayfield and the Red Mesa area. He was on the forefront of exploring alternative and renewable energy sources and built solar systems to power these properties including the irrigation systems he designed for each one.

Harry is survived by his wife Mert, and 2 daughters: Debbie with husband Brad and 4 children, and Jennie with husband Eric, and Harry's brother Warren. We loved him for his wise ways, his sense of humor, his kindness and his devotion to us all.

Harry was a friendly, soft-spoken and thoughtful-minded person who had a calming presence for those with whom he interacted. He always lead by example and with integrity. Harry always had an old pickup truck to drive and he was very respectful of the land he lived on and the natural world around him. He inspired many people in engineering, leadership, women in business, and community planning. He will be missed by many.

A celebration of life will be held at the Methodist Church in Durango CO on Oct 14th 2017.
