Edward Joseph Martinez, age 68, passed away June 1, 2021, after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Abenilde Martinez, two brothers, Lionel and Val Martinez, his sister Gloria Gomez, and his son Angelo Martinez. Nephews Michael Martinez, David Martinez, Neal Martinez, and Eric Gomez.
He is survived by four sons, Andy Martinez of Bullhead City, AZ, David, Eddie, and Thane Martinez of Aztec, NM. He is also survived by five brothers, Herman Martinez of El Paso, TX, James (Marty) Martinez of Marysville, WA, Dino Martinez of Santa Fe, NM, and David and Orlando Martinez of Durango, CO, two sisters, Nancy Walker (Dan Gohn) of Ignacio, CO, and Florina Martinez of Montrose, CO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Edward was born in Alcalde, NM, but lived most of his life in Durango and the surrounding area. He loved cooking and spent many years as a cook in different restaurants in Durango. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed Western novels and books about the Southwest. He loved watching old Western movies and listening to and collecting a variety of music. He also had a special touch in the garden.
Cremation has occured. Private services will be held at a later date.
