Daniel Anthony Cerna passed away on Feb. 21, 2021 at the age of 96. He was born Jan. 24, 1925 in San Antonio to Lucas Cerna and Antonia Raba.
Daniel graduated from Central Catholic and earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. On Sept. 5, 1947, he married Rosalie Gottardy, the beginning of a 72-year love story. They were blessed with 8 children, 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Licensed as an architect, his firm designed numerous churches and other projects, including the Hilton Palacio del Rio. From an early age, his passion was flying. Daniel built his own airplane and helped develop San Geronimo Air Park, where he built his home.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Baughman (Peter), Karen Halamuda (David), Martha Cerna, Tina Sanders (Ron), Barbara Cerna (Richard DiBaggio), Michael Cerna (Traci) and Stephen Cerna (Shannon Savage-Cerna). Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalie; son, Daniel Cerna, Jr.; granddaughter, Hanna Cerna; sister, Virginia Joseph.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 3 at 10 am at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church, 6150 Roft Road, San Antonio, TX. Covid protocols will be followed.
