Patsy was married to John Mackey in 1960. They had three wonderful boys. Twins James and John and little brother Troy. James died in a tragic accident when the twins were 15 months old.

Patsy cultivated a career in transportation getting her CDL. She drove eighteen-wheelers coast to coast for Coors Brewing Company. She worked for Alpine Tours and in 1984 she was sent to Los Angeles to drive the Finnish track team during the Olympic Games. When she returned to Denver she went to work for Denver Mobility transporting special needs adults in the Denver area.

Denver Mobility sent Patsy to Alamosa in 1987 to the Colorado Department of Education seminar that trained drivers to become driver trainers. There she met her future husband Don DeLuche who was the instructor for that seminar. Patsy moved to Durango and transported special needs children for School District 9-R for 12 years.
