Marjorie Jane Sanborn Appel passed peacefully at her home in Stillwater, OK, on her 94th birthday, June 12, 2021. She was born on June 12, 1927, to Harlan Page Sanborn and Martha Lawton Sanborn in Washington, D.C. Raised in that city she received an Associate in Arts from George Washington University in 1946.
In June 1946, Marjorie married James (Jim) Dunford Appel. Jim preceded her in death in June 2019.
Marjorie and Jim raised their family in Albuquerque, NM. Marjorie was a homemaker and a very talented artist. In 1980 they retired to Durango, CO. In 2013, Marjorie and Jim made their final move to a small home they built on family property outside of Stillwater, OK.
Marjorie is survived by her sons; John Lawton Appel of Santa Fe, NM, Daniel Bennit Appel of Albuquerque, NM, and Douglas Matthews Appel of Durango, CO; her daughter Linda Suzanne Appel Collier of Stillwater, OK; as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Andrew William Appel, son, Robert Westcott Appel, and sister, Joan S. Harper.

I have several of Jane's bookmark watercolors. We shared a love of New Mexico adobe churches. We met at an arts fair and she kindly invited me to her studio to see more of her work. She was a very talented artist.
