Glen Crandall Obituary

December 30, 1930 - May 10, 2022

Glen had a varied career life. He worked first with his father doing carpenter work. He later worked in the aerospace industry in southern CA with a company that made high-speed cameras on the earliest space flights. After leaving CA for Colorado Springs he worked with Ampex, the company that sold the first TV cameras that slowed motion for replays for the sports industry. A move to Durango, CO brought him to a career of 19 years at Fort Lewis College in the Physical Plant.

Probably his most rewarding career was in retirement and consisted of segmented woodturning recreating Anasazi-inspired wood bowls that were shown and sold in galleries, including Sorrel Sky and Toh-Atin in Durango among others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Christine (Matthiessen) Crandall, and his son, Alan Crandall. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Janette, sister Ruth West of Webberville, MI, daughter-in-law Nancy Crandall of Glendale, AZ, sisters-in-law, Ruth Strickling and Sandra Waldrop of Palm Desert, CA and a niece and nephew.

Glen was a lifelong lover of the out of doors and in lieu of services a legacy grove will be planted by "American Forests." Visit AmericanForests.org if you would like to donate a tree.
