Betty Miles of Durango Colorado passed away April 9, 2021 at the age of 81. Betty grew up in Loveland Colorado. After she graduated from high school, she moved to Denver where she met her future husband, Don Miles, when she responded to an ad for a yellow convertible mustang for sale. They moved their young family to Durango in 1966. Betty devoted her early life to caring for her family and keeping up with Don. She became a skilled trap shooter, and for a time, held the record at Vallecito Reservoir for landing the largest pike. She enjoyed boating and snowmobiling and kept "the crew" fed afterward. She made holidays special with secret family recipes and beautiful Christmas trees. Her heavily guarded posole recipe is a New Years' tradition to this day. Summer days were often spent working in the garden, mowing, and tending flowers. She looked forward to visitations from a large buck that returned to her yard for several years, never minding his nibbling. Betty loved Colorado and its wildlife. She worked for many years in Durango and most enjoyed the time she was volunteering/working at the Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum. Her retirement years were spent with her companion Rudy Tipotsch. They were together for many years, dancing to their favorite country music, and grew old together watching Rockies baseball. Betty loved her children and grandchildren and was filled with joy when she was recently visited by her great-granddaughters. Her children have adopted many of her values; caring for others, love of the outdoors, and old mustangs.

Betty is survived by her children Hugh (Mary) Miles, Kris Miles of Durango, sisters Jaqueline (Jim) Bacon of Olathe, CO, Georgia (Raymond) Eastman of Nacogdoches TX, grandson, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
