Beverly Dudley Obituary

Beverly Mae Dudley, 92, passed peacefully Tuesday morning, September 10th. She left behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship, and fun. She moved to Durango in 2008 and celebrated the past 11 years with friends and family at First United Methodist Church, Cottonwood Inn, Valley Inn, and her own apartment in north Durango. Prior to moving to Durango, she was born, married, and lived in Denver, CO, sharing her life with Lee Dudley, her three children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 brother-in-law, and 4 nieces. She was a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church in Denver and later Smoky Hill United Methodist Church in Aurora.

Beverly loved to live and lived to love. She loved caring for expectant mothers as a nurse in Labor & Delivery and later caring for children in Pediatrics at Porter Memorial Hospital. Working the night shift in her later years, she loved being the one to care for and comfort children in the hospital. She was an excellent nurse having graduated from the University of Denver, and doing her clinical work at Denver Children's Hospital and the University of Minnesota.

Married in 1949, Beverly loved Lee Dudley Jr. more than life itself. In their 43 years together, they created a home for their children that centered on faith and family. They loved camping, boating, family picnics, Sunday afternoon dinner, traveling, supporting their children and grandchildren in all their activities, and choosing even the smallest moments to celebrate.

Beverly budgeted for everything special and, in the early 1950s, Lee and she bought their first TV. Her favorite shows were Liberace, General Hospital and Bonanza. When a young rock-a-billy star made his debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, Bev made sure dinner dishes were done so that we could watch Elvis Presley sing "Love Me Tender" and "Don't Be Cruel" as a family.

Beverly was especially fond of her Colorado Rockies. She loved the color "blue", dancing with Lee at the Trocadero Ballroom at Elitch Gardens, and camping at Maroon Bells as well as in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Beverly lived her faith by loving all in her path. She was known for her winning smile, her quick wit, her caring nature, her laughter, her positive attitude, her humility, and her desire to help others. She loved gospel music, card games, knitting, crocheting, Bunco, Yahtzee, sitting by the fireplace, singing Christmas carols, baking special birthday cakes, hosting parties, and praying for all she knew.

Beverly taught us to live each day with intention, to love others as Jesus loves us, to laugh at every opportunity, to learn something new every day, to find reasons to have a party, to be present to those who need us, and to pray knowing God hears us. From all of us who knew and loved her, Thank you God! Beverly Mae Dudley
