Raymond Champ Floyd, known more frequently as "R.C." and as "Buddy", was born in Empire City, Oklahoma to Ditzler Garvin Floyd and Katherine Sarah (Champ) Floyd on September 18, 1927. The family relocated to Earlsboro, Oklahoma, where Buddy grew up. With his father's approval, he joined the Navy at 17 and served with honor until

1946. After his discharge, Buddy married Jerri (Mary) Alice Steele. They had three children and lived in Shawnee, Venezuela, Woodward, and Oklahoma City.

Buddy worked throughout his life in the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma, Venezuela, and the Middle East. Eventually, he retired and built a new home in the Rocky Mountains near Durango, Colorado. He spent the best years of his retirement fishing, hiking, chopping wood, and making sure the neighborhood's unpaved roads were

passable, all in the company of his wife, Marjorie Marie (Barnes) Floyd, and his many loving friends and neighbors.

Buddy is survived by his wife Marjorie and his two daughters and their husbands: Randy Floyd and Michael Smith and Jann and Terry Hook. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Floyd; his grandchildren, Travis Silvey (wife Lucretia) and Kate Floyd; great-grandchildren Navia and Karis Silvey; and stepson Darrell Wright (wife Phyllis). He is

predeceased by his parents; his sister Georgene Hale; his brother Robert Floyd; his son Thomas Floyd; and stepson Steve Wright (wife Charlotte).

In the last years of his life, Buddy's family brought him back to Oklahoma City. The family is grateful for the leadership and caregiver support provided by the Alzheimer's Association of Oklahoma. Tribute donations in memory of Raymond Floyd can be made at act.alz.org/donate.
