Wilene Shumway Obituary

Wilene Kay Shumway passed away Thurs., September 29, 2016 at her dream home in Arboles, Colorado at the age of 82. She was born in 1934 in Moab, Utah to Asa Melvin Turner and Lelia Ancelina Duncan. She married Bobby Dean Shumway November 28, 1950. Together they had five children, Robert (Raquel), Mike (Kelly), Carol, Rick (Tammy), Gary (Vicki) Shumway and 68 grandchildren.
Wilene and Bob were together for 42 years and the two of them had adventures that you only hear about in movies. They started in mining chasing the uranium dream in their early years, they were truly pioneers in modern times, with Wilene's drive and Bob's talents they were successful in ranching in Castle Valley and Collbran Colorado, they worked coal, uranium, gold mines, they ran a drilling business for oil & gas, uranium, coal, and water wells, they ran restaurants and built the legendary 'Pink Bull' in Collbran, Colorado, there was nothing out of reach to this couple. Horses were part of her everyday life growing up. She had horses for racing, packing and trail riding, she even was going to retire off her Wayne Newton blood line Arabians, (didn't work out). There are so many stories of challenges and successes, that affected so many lives that we will always be eternal grateful for. Wilene had a heart of gold and used her success to help so many people throughout her life. She touched so many lives and even in her last years she was always coming up with ideas that her body wouldn't allow her to do, but she shared them with others to help them become successful.
Wilene (Billi) discovered face book last year and it allowed her to connect to family and friends. This technology allowed her to watch and get to know all her children, grand children, and great grand children, this was such a blessing in her last days. Anyone who knew her on FB also knew her political views and love for this country. We will always be grateful for her colorful life and the lessons she taught those around her, she was the best friend to many, the best companion to her husband and the best mother to her children, she will be truly missed by all. We are thankful to have you in our lives and we know your next adventure will be greater than your last, thanks for all your love and the blessings in our lives.

I was so sad to learn of her passing, it broke my heart. I so enjoyed her FB posts and chuckled at her comments on mine, she said it like it was!! I shared in her Love of the Broncos and it was fun to share the excitement of their Superbowl year. I called her my friend and will miss her so much. She was a Moab Original. Rest in peace Classy Lady.
