Richard Frank Lindsay was born in Laramie, Wyoming on August 8, 1943 to Mildred & Homer Lindsay. As a military family they moved several times but Homer took his family to Cheyenne Wy. when he deployed to Korea where he died as a POW. At the age of 12, he and his family moved to Denver, where he graduated high school. After high school, Richard attended Fort Lewis College on an athletic scholarship, where while working at the Kiva theater Richard met his future wife, Dolores. After 4 years of dating, Richard and Dolores were married on February 19, 1966 in Durango, Colorado. Shortly after they married, they moved to Denver where their first daughter arrived. Richard spent the next 4 years traveling with his family and job until he was able to relocate back to Durango, Colorado, where their second daughter was born. Richard worked for Mann Theatres, overseeing Kiva theater and the construction on the Gaslight Theatre. In 1977 he began his career as a reserve police officer for the Durango Police Department while continuing to manage the theaters. In 1979 he took a full-time position with the Durango PD. In the years following, Richard also worked part time at Durango Glass and the Rocket Drive-In. Richard worked as a police officer until 2006 when he retired as a sergeant. After retirement, Richard and his wife moved to Farmington, New Mexico where he promptly failed retirement and began work as a security officer at Sun Ray Casino where he was quickly promoted to Chief Security Officer. He spent 7 years in this position until his health no longer allowed him to continue. Richard and Dolores celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage in February. Cancer was their trial together side-by-side, where they battled until September 17, 2016 Richard peacefully passed away with his life-long love at his side.
Richard will always be remembered for his hard work, quick wit, love of family & the simple life. For Richard's greatest joy and legacy was watching his grandsons grow into amazing young men as he celebrated in each and every accomplishment each of them had. His grandson Dade was with him faithfully through his final days.
He is survived by his spouse Dolores Lindsay, daughter Debi (Mark) Schwab and Delery (Paul) Lindsay-Blocker; grandsons Scott & Gunnar Schwab, and Dade Lindsay-Blocker. Sister Viola Bazelle, Step- brother Brian Erdman, nephew Donald Bazelle, and nieces Sharleen Grabosch and Tammy Kruger,

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dick's family. I went to school with Debi and worked across the street from the Durango PD in the municipal court, where I was able to get to know the wonderful person that he was. God Bless you and your family.

I first met Dick in La Junta where he and Delores managed the Fox theater. He also was the director of Adult Religious Ed at St. Patrick's/Guadalupe churches. He was a man who helped always and cheerfully. He will be missed.
