Randy James (R.J.) Franklin Obituary
In Memory of Randy James (R.J.) Franklin

December 20, 1951 - November 1, 2018

Randy (R.J.) passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018.

R.J. was born in San Diego County, California and grew up in Bonita, California. He was one of 6 children of James B. & Dorothy Franklin and enjoyed an adventurous childhood. He loved camping with his brothers and deep-sea fishing with his grandfather. R.J. attended Bonita Vista High School where he played football and was on the wrestling team. He graduated in the first ever senior class at BVHS. During those years he trained and showed Arabian horses for employment. He later attended Southwestern College and San Diego State University.

R.J. moved to Colorado around 1984 and worked for Franklin Drilling & Blasting in Durango for about 8 years. He moved to the Denver area in the late 1980's. He worked many years as a CNC Machinist.

R.J. enjoyed many outdoor activities including: skiing, bird hunting, fishing, going to Rockies games, and attending the Mile Hi Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. He also enjoyed spending time with his family in the Denver area. Other interests included reading and studying astronomy.

R.J. also liked to cook. In his earlier years, his chocolate cakes were a hit with the family. He shared his recipes for "R.J.'s World Famous Red Hot Beans" and "R.J.'s World Famous Hot Green Chile" with his friends and family. He certainly had a taste for hot & spicy food!

R.J. actively supported several wild cats (bobcats & lynx) at the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keensburg, Colorado by "adopting" them to provide for their food and upkeep. He and his friend, Linda, made several trips a year to the Animal Sanctuary which was a highlight in recent years. His two housecats were his pride & joy.

In lieu of flowers, R.J.'s family would like to suggest a donation to the Wild Animal Sanctuary. Please go to www.wildanimalsanctuary.org.

R.J. was LOVED and will be missed by all! The family would like to thank you for your support and prayers during this difficult time. Your words of comfort & expressions of kindness are greatly appreciated.
