Myrtle Robinett Obituary

Myrtle Jean (Jones) Robinett was born and raised, the youngest of eight children, on a farm in Indianola, Nebraska. After graduating from high school in 1947, she married Paul G. Sines of McCook and moved to Denver, CO. Her son, Dana Lee (Tai) Sines was born in 1949. In 1953 the family drove the recently completed Alcan highway and settled in Anchorage, Alaska where Paul secured work with the Alaska Railroad and Jean with First National Bank of Anchorage.

In 1959 the railroad transferred them to Seward where they were divorced soon after. Jean married Gene P. Kirkpatrick in May of 1960. The couple lived contentedly until the massive Alaska earthquake of 1964 which necessitated a move to Whittier, Alaska and ultimately led to Gene's death in an industrial accident on the docks there.

After settling affairs in Seward, Jean spent some time in California with relatives but ultimately moved back to Anchorage and resumed her career at the bank where she attained the post of Trust Officer. She became a visible figure in bank social organizations and was a regular attendee at the Miners and Trappers Ball and other events of the annual Anchorage Fur Rendezvous.

In the early 70's, she met Jimmy L. Robinett who was an army officer stationed at Ft. Richardson, near Anchorage. They were married in 1972. They were stationed in Oklahoma and Indiana while Jim finished out his military service after which he retired as a Lt. Colonel. At that point, in the early 80's, they built their dream home in Chimney Rock, CO on the bank of the Piedra River where they lived happily for more than 30 years. They were active members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Jean was noted for her compassionate nature and ability to find fun in most situations. She was also a wonderful cook and hostess.

Jean was preceded in death by Jim (May 2018) her stepchildren Lee Robinett and Lisa Klein and her second husband Gene. She is survived by her first husband Paul, her son Tai, son-in-law Joe Klein, grandchildren Nita Albert, Alisha & Keith Griffin, Marshall & Mallory Klein, Samantha Klein and six great-grandchildren.
