Fourth generation Durango native Jerry L. "Jake" Dalla passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14th, 2016 at Mercy Hospital where he was surrounded by his loving family. Jake was born in Durango on March 8, 1947 to Antoinette ""Toni"" Tulio Dalla & Jerry Dalla. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Durango High School, graduating in the class of 1965. Jake started his working career as a Holsum bread man at age 19, but soon started his own business, Drillco, Inc. He had a dream to buy some land and have it preserved in perpetuity as a wildlife park/refuge and recreation area in memory of his beloved parents. In a joint effort with Great Outdoors Colorado, he achieved this dream with Dalla Mountain Park in 2006.
His understanding of engineering and geology made it possible for him to purchase and develop Horse Gulch Ranches. He was truly a self-made man. He was very proud of his Catholic upbringing, his family and especially his faithful companion, his dog Jack.
He was a member of the BPOE for over 50 years and was proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the Animas Fire Protection District from 1978-1986. Many have fond memories of drinking coffee with him at Lori's Restaurant. He was known for his integrity, sharp intellect and his quick wit. Jake spent many summers in the family mines up in Howardsville, north of Silverton, CO.
He is survived by his sister Mary Lynn Dalla of Grand Junction, CO & his two daughters, Rochelle L. Dalla of Omaha, NE and Andrea D. Dalla of Durango, CO. He also was blessed with three grandchildren that were his pride & joy; Logan Dalla-Blackwell of Omaha, NE and Bryan and Jessica Dalla-Cundiff of Durango. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Toni Dalla, his grandparents, Joe and Mary Tulio, his uncle, Nick Tulio, and many more close family members and friends.
Memorial services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 E. 5th Ave, Durango, CO 81301 on Saturday, Nov 19th, 2016 at 11:00 am with a reception/gathering afterwards across the street at the church hall. Internment at Greenmount Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Jake's name to the Sisters of Mercy Foundation, 7262 Mercy Road Omaha, NE 68124, which he strongly supported.

I lived two houses north of Jerry in the 50's. Jerry Lewis we called him. His dad owned Jerry's Market, that's where everyone shopped. We were great friends,
along with Steve Hinds. We played war every
day, cowboy and modern day war. I still have some photos of us.
I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.
Here's to "Back on the Block." Tom
