Lifetime Durango resident, John E. Barry, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. He was 58 years old.
John was born in Durango on July 27, 1960 to parents Angela "Angie" Barry and John "Bud" Barry. He attended St. Columba School, where he was an altar boy until 8th grade, and graduated class of '78 from Durango Senior High.
Nearly inseparable, John was extremely close with his father and followed his path into the trucking industry. They eventually formed their own family business, Barry's North American Van Lines. It was through this career that he met his wife Nancy, who joined him in Durango in 1987.
An avid Colorado hunter and fisherman, you could count on John to know of secret gems around the state. A few of his favorite places were Williams Lake, Andrews Lake, Craig, and Devil Mountain. He was a member of the BPOE Elks Club and the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Angie Barry, and his grandparents, Arthur & Verna Gomez and Edward & Marie Barry. He is survived by his sisters, Sheri DeFrancisci and Bernadine Barry; wife, Nancy Tulley; daughter, Brandy Tulley; stepchildren, Brent Tulley & Gretchen McKinley; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
Services will be held at St. Columba Church at 10am on Saturday, June 1st with a graveside service to follow at Greenmount Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to the Durango Elks Lodge.

I just learned of John's passing and am so sorry he is gone. We attended St. Columba together and remained friends all our lives. He was a truly good person who always had a warm smile and a kind word. I just returned to Durango after many years away and will certainly miss having John here.

What a sad day to learn of John's passing. It would be hard to find a better person in any regard. The guy was a straight A student in high school as well. I can't recall ever meeting or knowing a finer person. The entire family was that way and iconic to the area.
The world spins a little slower now and John may be gone, but will never be forgotten.
Rest in well deserved peace my friend. We'll all be reunited again soon.

John was a good friend. I met John in the early 70's while vacationing at my Aunt and Uncle's property just down the street from John's home. I also went to School with John. He had a beautiful heart, loved nature and would help anyone in need. I send my condolences and prayers to John's family. john, you will be missed.
